Graduates of Salinas Valley Public High Schools are eligible for scholarships at Hartnell College through the Confidence Lodge Scholarship Fund. Confidence Lodge #203 represents the Free and Accepted Masons; the group was chartered in 1869 in Castroville, California.
Myrl Blum, treasurer for the group said, "We are very proud that recent donations have brought the endowment total above $50,000. We invest our funds with the Grand Lodge and only use the interest."
Lloyd Limrite, Scholarship Committee Chairman said, "We give at least $400 to as many students as we can afford. Now is the time for applicants to apply. Our application deadline is February 20, 2003. Applicants will be selected based on academic promise, financial need and extra-curricular activities," Limrite concluded.
"Applicants must have a grade point average of 2.8 or above and must enroll in and maintain 12 units each semester during the required academic year," Blum added.
"We are so pleased to receive this generous school endowment from the Confidence Lodge," said Cicely McCreight, Director of Institutional Advancement at Hartnell College.
