We had the pleasure of welcoming Rep. Jimmy Panetta to our Alisal Campus on Friday, August 18, 2017; the purpose of his visit was focused on the Ag programs we offer and the partnerships with industry that support our efforts.

The visit began with a tour of our facilities that included a lab, the future makerspace area, auto tech, fabrication, and the NASA MAA lab.  Students Ryan Leal (Advanced Auto Tech) and Miguel Gomez (Agriculture Production) shared their experience at Hartnell and future plans.

Together with Director of the Agricultural Business and Technology Institute, Dr. Susan Pheasant, we shared student success outcomes, overview of our Ag programs, and future plans.

He was definitely impressed with what he heard and saw.

“Everything you are doing now is matching up with what we are talking about in Washington D.C.,” Congressman Panetta exclaimed with enthusiasm.

Industry partners joined this special meeting and they added a special touch and validity to the visit. These included: Teresa Matsui, Emmett Linder, Bart Walker, Gary Tanimura, and David Gill. Also in attendance were Trustee Manuel Osorio, Trustee Patricia Donohue, Trustee Candi DePauw, Trustee Erica Padilla-Chavez, and Trustee Aurelio Salazar Jr. In addition, other attendees included VP of Academic Affairs, Dr. Lori Kildal; VP of Advancement and Development, Jackie Cruz; Director of Communications, Esmeralda Montenegro Owen; faculty members Dr. Steven Triano and Dr. Laura Miles; and District Director for Representative Panetta, Kathleen Lee.
