Speech Team has a great start to the competitive season

SALINAS, Calif. – The Hartnell College Speech Club had a great start to their 2014-2015 competitive season with significant at two back-to-back tournaments at San Francisco State University, on September 27 and 28, 2014, bringing home 12 prizes.

“This is a great start to the new season,” said Coach Jason Hough. “Other schools are now viewing Hartnell as a team to watch out for in the future.”

The team competed against 24 other two-year and four-year institutions from California, including UC Berkeley, Concordia University-Irvine, San Jose State University, Modesto Junior College, Las Positas College and others. Students could perform in two divisions: open, for competitive experience, or novice for first semester of competition.

San Francisco State University sponsored the tournament on September 27 where seven Hartnell students earned prizes; they are: Victoria Garcia, Top Novice in Communication Analysis; Chris Rendon and Sam Villavicencio, Top Novice in Dramatic Duo Interpretation; Meritzy Ayala, Second Place in Novice Informative Speaking; Angelica Hernandez, Third Place in Novice Prose Interpretation; Lourdes Tinajero, Fourth Place in Novice Prose Interpretation, and Andrea Cervantes, Sixth Place in Open Poetry Interpretation.

On September 28, City College of San Francisco sponsored the event and Hartnell snatched six prizes.  The recipients are: Victoria Garcia, Top Novice in Communication Analysis; David Santana and Tanaya Landry, Top Novice in Dramatic Duo Interpretation; Lourdes Tinajero, Second Place in Novice Prose Interpretation; Angelica Hernandez, Third Place in Novice Prose Interpretation; Meritzy Ayala, Fifth Place in Novice Informative Speaking, and Andrea Cervantes, Sixth Place in Open Poetry Interpretation.

Also competing for the team were Sarina Atkins, Marc Dover, Joy Jubane, and Ariana Valencia.
