About CCIE
CCIE is a non-profit organization, whose membership currently consists of 68 of the 108 California community colleges. According to the Strategic Task Force on Education Abroad: "America has a serious deficit in global competence and moreover, Americans are disconnected from the rest of the world at a time when anti-American sentiments run high over the war in Iraq and the aftermath of the September 11th terrorist attacks on New York and Washington." The 2003 ACE report, "Mapping Internationalization on U.S. Campuses," concurs with this research that despite decades of effort, the vast majority of U.S. post-secondary institutions are not institutionalizing an internationalized curriculum.
Now is the time for California community colleges to be that vital component that assists in the internationalization of the curriculum, our students and faculty and college community. The CCIE Spring Conference will bring opportunities for sharing international and intercultural expertise and to bring to light current issues and discussions that are pivotal to ensuring that community colleges educate citizens of the world.
