Presidential Search: The Search Process
The Board of Trustees of Hartnell College initiated a search for a superintendent/president in April 2007 upon the announcement of the retirement of its permanent president, effective July 1, 2007. The Board soon determined that, because of the short window of time involved, the initial search should be for an interim appointment. An interim superintendent/president was appointed in June 2007 to begin at the end of that month.
At the same time, Hartnell initiated the processes for securing professional search services, established a search committee, and planned the search process.
The recruitment process officially opened on February 8, 2008. The application filing deadline is March 28, 2008. Applications received after this date will be reviewed on an as-needed basis.
Applicants must submit the following:
- A letter of application that describes why you are interested in the position, how you meet the qualifications and characteristics, and how you are prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities. The letter is to be a maximum of five pages.
- A current resume that includes educational background, professional experience, professional activities, and other experience pertinent to the position.
- A completed official Hartnell application, available online at www.hartnell.edu/hr/forms or by contacting the Hartnell College Human Resources Office at 831-755-6706.
- A list of at least five professional references with titles and current office and personal phone numbers. These persons may be contacted prior to an interview with the Search/Screening Committee.
- Copies of transcripts from all higher education institutions attended. These may be unofficial copies, however, official transcripts must be provided when a job offer is made.
