| April 2007 | Hartnell College president announced retirement, effective July 1, 2007. Board of Trustees initiated search for interim president. |
| June 2007 | Board selected Dr. Phoebe Knight Helm as interim superintendent/president |
| August 2007 | Superintendent/President Search Steering Committee formed |
| September 2007 | Board of Trustees enters into agreement with PPL to provide professional and technical services related to the search |
| Sept – November 2007 | Search Committee:

| December 2007 | Search brochure content finalized |
| January 2008 | Brochure designed and printed |
| February 8, 2008 | Recruitment opens - Application filing period begins |
| March 28, 2008 | Application filing deadline to ensure consideration. Applications received after this date will be reviewed on an as-needed basis. |
| April 1 – 8, 2008 | Paper rating performed by Screening Committee members |
| April 14, 2008 | Screening Committee meets to compile paper rating results and determine who to invite to interviews |

Invitations to Screening Committee interviews issued |
| April 17 – May 1, 2008 | Screening Committee interviews of candidates conducted |
| May 1, 2008 | Screening Committee selects finalists to recommend to Board |
| May 12-16, 2008 | Campus forums held for finalists. |
| May, 2008 | Site visit to current campus or district of finalist Board of Trustees selects superintendent/president |
| July 1 | Superintendent/president begins service at Hartnell |
