The report is a meant to be a report of progress since the last report rather than one that brings up entirely new issues.

Agenda #3

Topic:Twitter and Alert U
Presenter:
Summary of Agenda Item:James Fitch was not available to discuss Twitter and Alert U. Terri Pyer briefly explained the two communication technologies. You can see some examples of the ways that James has begun using them by going to our home page under News and Events. Twitter is a free service that lets you keep in touch with people through short broadcasts (140 characters at most) to the web or cell phone. By pushing this type of technology our goal is to pull people on campus. Ron Waddy commented that we can also present safety notification when classes are cancelled, elevator out and contact students who take So. County classes if cancelled, by using Twitter. There has not been a lot of "splash" with Twitter. Terri said if this becomes popular, we need to figure out a way for the information they want. That will probably need to be developed with protocol for students. Terri said she can work with James Fitch on that. Ron Waddy pointed out that one way the college can promote this is start a student drive for Twitter notification is through promotion of some sort, Terri said we can get the key people involved and target Tweets at noon to keep students on campus and build community.

Agenda #4

Topic:Building Conditions
Presenter:
Summary of Agenda Item:Ron Waddy expressed concern about the CAB building room C362. He took photos of places where the wall paper was peeling off the wall, which he thought might be water damage that could create mold. Ron sent photos to Gary Hughes and wondered whether the building is a "sick building". Ron also reported another issue to maintenance when he was having trouble breathing, and their analysis was that it was dust from his bookshelves that was being blown by the ventilation system. Terri Pyer told Ron that she would mention this to Damon Felice to take a look so that he could consider this when the renovation of the CAB building begins. Measure H funds will be covering this renovation cost of the CAB building.

Agenda #5

Topic:Office of Emergency Services (OES)
Presenter:
Summary of Agenda Item:Neil Ledford discussed county emergencies and would like Hartnell College key people to participate in the network. The network is designed to be a main center of operations for the community to coordinate services when we have disasters such as earthquakes, fires, floods, natural disasters, and food safety. With support from OES our key people can relay information for the media to aire and it is a controlled response. By involving OES services they can help us deal with these emergencies with they happen.

Neil Ledford would like to take action and pursue participation in the Monterey County Office of Emergency Services (OES) to build a network with Hartnell College that will suport our community.
