The development and implementation of a Student Learning Outcomes Assessment cycle is one of the standards that must be met for accreditation. All courses, programs and services at Hartnell must have Student Learning Outcomes that are assessed and reviewed. It is the responsibility of the faculty, in discussion with students and advisory committees (in occupational areas), to develop SLOs.

Intro to Accreditation Standards
The ACCJC (Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges Western Association of Schools and Colleges) has a rubric for colleges to follow in terms of verifying if they are effectively implementing and assessing SLOA at their campus. This rubric was released in 2009 with the expectation that community colleges would be at the Proficiency Level by the 2012 - 2013 academic year. All colleges are being required to submit a status report on the implementation of SLOs for the 2012 - 2013 academic year. Hartnell was required to submit ours in March 2013.
