Annual Collaborative Activity Outcomes

Text Box: Student learning outcomes for 100% of targeted ESL and basic English courses will be completed Student learning outcomes have been completed for the ESL and basic English courses. Two new courses (information competency and computer literacy course with an emphasis in Multimedia) will be developed and scheduled for pilot testing Information Competency (LIB 7), Internet Literacy (LIB 90 or CSS 90) and Computer Systems & Information Literacy (CSS 43) are up and in the schedule for the Fall 08 semester. Ten (10) ESL and English faculty (5 from each school) will participate in 2 best practices workshops with 90% reporting integration one or more new methodologies into their courses. Two faculty went to the Academic Senate training on SLO’s and will be holding a workshop for the ESL and English faculty to share their information. No data on integration at this time. Three faculty were sent to Truman and Morton colleges to learn from their Basic skills and ESL programs about their “Best Practices”. These faculty reported out the Academic Senate. No information at this time about integration. Art 73 (Digital Illustration for Animation) was offered for faculty to help develop learning materials for their classes. 3 faculty took the class and are using the tools learned in the class in their classes. Expanded academic support services will be in place with hiring and training of 4 supplemental instruction facilitators and 6 new tutors Additional Supplemental Instruction facilitators have been added to the ESL and English programs. 4 new SI facilitators for Fall 07 and 3 new SI facilitators for Spring 08 have been added and trained and 5 new Tutors were added and trained for Spring 08.. Not all of the Tutors were used only by ESL and English. Check out data below. After spring semester 2008 persistence will raise in the ESL gateway courses by 15% and in the English sequence by 5% Information not available at this time.

· Student access and Success Research Centers equipped, staffed, and open on both campuses

Due to the reorganization of the college we have moved ahead with the hiring of the Programmer for the Center which was scheduled for year two. We have been unable to hire the programmer due to insufficient pools. We will put out the proposal again to see if we can complete the hire. We have purchased the equipment for the center.

Benchmarks for English 253 and ESL 145 have been set.
