Announces First Annual High School Theatre Conference

The Western Stage is proud to announce its first annual High School Theatre Conference, OnStge, on April 23^rd and 24^th, 2005. Monterey County High School Theatre students have the opportunity to participate in breakout sessions that explore auditioning, stage combat, costume design, stage carpentry, and more! In recognition of the wealth of talent that exists in Monterey County High School Theatre programs, and the dedication of area Drama teachers to continue to create and develop opportunities for their students, The Western Stage is introducing its first annual High School Theatre Conference, OnStge, in Spring 2005!

The purpose of this conference is three-fold:

To give area students the opportunity to meet each other, to share their common interest or experiences in theatre and performance with like-minded young adults.
To introduce students to The Western Stage program, its resident staff and instructors, and the opportunities available to them during the summer.
To call attention to the work of area theatre teachers in creating and sustaining the arts in the classroom.

Students have the opportunity to participate in various breakout sessions that appeal to their interests. Actors will be given the opportunity to perform a short scene, monologue, or song and to receive feedback from the experienced TWS resident staff and instructors. Other performance breakout sessions will explore stage combat, using/handling props, and even beginning tap dance!

If a student’s preference is behind-the-scenes rather than in the spotlight there are also valuable tech breakout sessions that delve into costume design, basic carpentry, sewing, and more!
