December 19, 2007

The Hartnell College Theatre Arts Department is currently enrolling students for SpringFest 2008, its annual series of theatre classes, workshops and performance projects. SpringFest has evolved into a safe and inviting environment for both students new to theatre and seasoned performers eager to explore and develop their craft.

Classes in Theater Technique:

The Healthy Voice; instructor Robin McKee-Williams. Robin is one of only three certified McClosky voice specialists on the West Coast.  These methods provide incredible understanding of the physiology of the human voice and help to modify weak vocal habits. The result is the rebuilding and enhancing of healthy, robust and lasting speaking voices.

Dialect Intensive; instructor, Jeff McGrath.  Strengthen or gain proficiency in Standard British and Cockney.

Dance Intensive; instructor Joelle Kaiser.  By learning the choreography from some of The Western Stage’s past musicals you will not only sharpen your skills with the basics of dance and musical choreography you will also get an introduction to the kind of work our choreographers do…from hight energy and athleticism to rockin’ rhythms to improvisation and fluidity.

A Project of Commonality

An original work by the actors

Directed by Jeff McGrath

We are looking for individuals to share stories of isolation and prejudice to create a series of monologues, and through the development process, gain not only an advance of studio acting skills, but a better understanding of each other and our communities.

Are You Now or Have You Ever Been

By Eric Bentley

Directed by Jefferey T. Heyer

The McCarthy era’s anti-communist trials destroyed lives and friendships.  It was a phenomenon that paralyzed a whole generation and in a short time dried up the habits of trust and toleration.  Dialogue in this play is taken from hearings before the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

Line

By Israel Horowitz

Directed by Tom Donald

An intense, often uncomfortable play about the motivations and machinations of five characters waiting to be first in line.  With no sense of what they are waiting for or why, we are meant to ask, why does this wait matter?

YCPresents

Title TBA

Directed by Susanne Burns

We are still looking for the perfect script, but it will definitely prove acting challenges to the youngest members of our company (9-16).  Past titles have included A Thousand Cranes, Rutherford Wolf, Juggers Rain, Liza & the Riddling Cave, and The Curate Shakespeare As You Like It.

In addition, the Hartnell College Theatre Arts Department will offer:

Onstage, the annual High School Theatre Festival (February 16)

V-Day Hartnell College with A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and a Prayer and The Vagina Monologues (February 23 & 24)

Gaman, a Salinas Stories project revisited  (Dates TBA)

Legacy Players (Dates TBA)
