The Western Stage Young Company is gearing up for another summer packed with all kinds of exciting projects for young actors!  The Western Stage Young Company will be holding auditions for actors between the ages of 9 - 17 to join one of the most affordable and stimulating arts programs in Monterey County. Every summer, the TWS Young Company offers unique programs for young people interested in learning about theatre arts.  Auditions will take place on May 31 and June 1 at The Western Stage on the campus of Hartnell College in Salinas.

Play’s-the-Thing (PtT) will break into two skill concentrations – 1) Acting Intensive and 2) Musical Performance Intensive.  The first two weeks all  PtT actors will join  the YOU*Theater Camp actors in a fast-paced intro to acting, dancing and singing, and will present a short performance for parents and friends at the 2008 Company Meeting on Saturday morning, June 28th.

PtT actors will then break into two groups (actors will choose) to work in depth on basic skills in either non-musical acting or musical performance.

YCPresents (YCP) is a production-oriented program that focuses on aspects of rehearsal, technical production, and performance. The Works of William Shakespeare will be the focus.  Although YCP actors will still work on singing and dancing skills, the focus will be more on building actor skills of investigating and unlocking the mysteries of text and meter, and interpreting Shakespeare’s classic stories.

Interested students and parents should call The Western Stage at 759-6037 to schedule an audition appointment.   For more information on these exciting summer projects call Susanne Burns at 755-6929.
