Hartnell College Gets Good News on Accreditation

February 5th, 2008

Hartnell College received a letter from the Accrediting Commission elevating its status from probation to warning, effective immediately.

The removal of probation was announced at the monthly meeting of the Board of Trustees by interim president Dr. Phoebe Helm.

The letter from the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges, dated January 31, 2008, states that the action to remove Hartnell from probation and place it on warning--a lesser sanction--was made at its semi-annual meeting on January 9-11, 2008.

In making the announcement to the board, Dr. Helm said, “We have made great progress - thanks to the faculty and staff who have worked tirelessly and with determination!  I thank them, but also thank the Board of Trustees for their leadership, for their support, for the time they have devoted to their own growth and development, and for their desire to function as a Board to meet the needs of the District.”

The college’s next progress report is due to the Accrediting Commission on March 15.
