Two Hartnell College science students were recently awarded prestigious research internships for the summer.
Oscar Mancillas earned a summer research internship position at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute. He will work with Dr. Peter Brewer, investigating the geochemistry of methane hydrates and carbon dioxide in the ocean that are related to global climate change. Oscar will continue his biochemistry studies at the University of California at San Diego or the University of California at Santa Cruz next fall.
Darwin Fernandez, an engineering student at Hartnell, has earned a research internship at the Center for Adaptive Optics, where he will work with Dr. Joel Kubby on a project researching and designing scientific instrumentation. Darwin has been accepted to the University of California at Santa Cruz, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and San Francisco State University for the fall. He plans to pursue a program in electrical engineering.
