Hartnell College's Daylong Pow Wow Set for April 22

April 8th, 2006

As many as 1,000 persons are expected to attend Hartnell College's second annual pow wow on Saturday, April 22.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the lawn area in front of the library and is open to the public. There is no admission charge.

A pow wow is the Native American people's way of meeting together, according to Lorenzo Holquin, Hartnell student and vice president of a campus club called Honoring Indigenous Intertribal Peoples (HIIP). "The pow wow is a time for Native Americans to join in dancing, singing, visiting, renewing old friendships and making new ones," he said. "We look forward to a successful event and invite the campus and community to participate."

Holquin said there will be food booths as well as drumming and dance contests.

The pow wow is sponsored by HIIP and Hartnell's Center for International/Intercultural Education.

For more information on the pow wow, call Lorenzo Holquin at (831) 383-1257 or Patric Aledo at (831) 776-9266.
