The Hartnell College Board of Trustees and the college’s Bond Oversight Committee are seeking candidates for one position on the Bond Oversight Committee. The committee is a community-based group that oversees expenditures from the $131 million Measure H bond that was passed by Salinas Valley voters in 2002.
This position, that will become vacant on September 11, is for an at-large member. Pursuant to California Education Code 15282, citizens’ oversight committees “shall consist of at least seven members to serve for a term of two years without compensation and for no more than two consecutive terms.”
This committee’s role, as overseer of the use of bond money, is to ensure that all funds are used in the manner allowed by the state constitution and to inform the public concerning the expenditure of bond revenues.
The bond measure has funded the college’s new library and parking structure and several renovation projects. It also is funding the construction of a Center for Assessment and Lifelong Learning on the main campus, as well as the Center for Applied Technology on the Alisal Campus, which just broke ground this summer.
Applications for the position may be made by submitting a letter outlining qualifications to the Office of the President of the College, 411 Central Avenue, Salinas, CA 93901 before 5 p.m. September 8, 2008. Applications will be reviewed by members of the Bond Oversight Committee and referred to the Board of Trustees for appointment.
