On Friday, September 7, Hartnell College will host a research symposium and dinner to honor and showcase the work of nearly a dozen Hartnell student interns who did summer science internships in conjunction with Hartnellís NASA grant. Hartnell earned NASAís Curriculum Improvement Partnership Award of Excellence for 2007 in July for its execution of this grant.
The students, who worked in several different laboratories and research institutions, will present their research experiences.
The event starts at 5 p.m. with a reception and dinner catered by Chapala Mexican Restaurant in the Hartnell College Center. The research presentations follow at 6:45 p.m. in Merrill Hall science building, room 1.
Among those attending the dinner are Salinas Mayor Dennis Donahue, Hartnell interim President Dr. Phoebe Helm, Hartnellís NASA grant advisory board, Hartnell science faculty, and representatives from the intern-hosting institutions, including the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, the Center for Adaptive Optics, the Baskin School of Engineering at UC Santa Cruz, and the Fremont Peak Observatory.
The media are encouraged to attend the reception, dinner, and research presentations.
