At the 2012 Awards and Honors Ceremony of the American Phytopathological Society (APS) in Providence, Rhode Island, in August, Hartnell student Ana Ibarra was awarded the Frank L. Howard Undergraduate Research Fellowship. Ibarra conducts research in the U.S. Department of Agriculture lab of Dr. Carolee Bull.
The fellowship was established to encourage the involvement of undergraduate students in research, and to encourage students to pursue advanced degrees and careers in plant pathology. Ibarra was the only community college student to receive an award from the APS. She will be using the award to present at the APS meeting next year in Austin, Texas.
