Board of Trustees of Hartnell College Will Not Meet Today

September 28th, 2006

Salinas, Calif. - This is to inform the public that there was no posted meeting of the Board of Trustees of Hartnell College for today, Thursday, September 28, 2006, by the Hartnell College Administration. No agenda was ever developed.

The calling of a press conference by the President of the Board of Trustees does not properly agendize a special meeting of the Board. Polling of the Board of Trustees by the Office of the Superintendent/President, which occurs for every special meeting, indicated the uncertainty of a quorum and that solidified there was no need to post for a meeting. A regular Board of Trustees meeting is scheduled for October 3, 2006.

"At the regularly scheduled Board Meeting on October 3, 2006, the Board of Trustees will conduct its regular meeting and follow all rules and Regulations appropriate to the Brown Act," President/Superintendent Edward J. Valeau said.

"On September 22nd," Valeau stated, "the faculty requested to return to negotiations." He continued, "Currently there is an amicable relationship at the negotiating table and every effort is being made by both parties to bring negotiations to a close."

The respect for the process is confirmed by both parties. The Chief Negotiator, Dr. Valeau, for the Hartnell Community College District, is confident that the process that had been agreed to by the Administration and the faculty union is one that will allow continued negotiations and hard work that will bring the negotiations to a conclusion.

According to the College administration, there are no new resolutions or directions by the Board other than those that are currently on the table at negotiations.

"Any effort to thwart the process that currently exists by Board President Steve McShane will serve to derail the process, thus extending negotiations and causing discontent among all employees," said Dr. Valeau.
