The Associated Students of Hartnell College and the Office of Student Life presented the Fourth Annual Women's Empowerment Conference with the theme, Paving the Way, on Saturday, March 10, 2018. This conference has become a treasured occasion in March in commemoration of Women's History Month.

With the Director of Communications, Marketing, and Public Relations, Esmeralda Montenegro Owen as their Advisor, the 100 attendees enjoyed a day filled with workshops, business etiquette, a keynote, a fashion show, and more. The registration was open to Hartnell and high school students. They participated in 3 of 4 workshops:

  • Self-Care and Wellness via Whole Foods - Dr. Hortencia Jimenez
  • Women Throughout History - Prof. Jennifer Grohl
  • Mental Health Basics - Dir. Amy Lehman
  • Career and Professional Development - Ashley Gauer, MBEP

The keynote address was given by local motivational speaker, Diane Danvers-Simmons. She owns her company Own it, Fell it, Live it and Spirituality in Stilettos. In her presentation, she drew from her own experiences to inspire the audience, which also included men. She provided the group a number of exercises that they can use in their day to day to cope with stress and difficult situations. A big thanks to ASHC President, Nelida Ponce for bringer her officers together to make this a great event for all. ASHC Officer, Katherine Hernandez led the fashion show for the first time - she was empowered to do a great job! Donated business attire was available after the conference for attendees to take home.
