Stepping Up – Improving Women and Latino Enrollment and Success in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Programs

The National Science Foundation Science Talent Expansion Program is a 5-year grant at Hartnell College that focuses on increasing the number of women and Latino students who pursue degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The grant offers support in a variety of ways by providing  study group leaders for math and science courses. It has also inspired the creation of Hartnell’s Summer Undergraduate Math & Science Program, Hartnell’s  Women in Science Exploration club and helped support the Fall 2008 launch of Hartnell’s Science & Mathematics Institute. Finally the grant is providing support to a number of Hartnell students in science and engineering internships at the Naval Postgraduate School, the United States Department of Agriculture, the California State University Monterey Bay, and other research labs and universities.
