Nursing education is a complex interactive process that includes the teaching of theoretical concepts, clinical skills, and attitudes and prepares for competent practice. Nursing education incorporates knowledge from the humanities and from natural, behavioral, and physical sciences. Nursing education includes measurable objectives and a planned set of activities that stimulate creative thinking and critical analysis, resulting in a persistent change of behavior. Nursing education occurs in a variety of settings and prepares graduates for different levels of practice. Education is the key to articulation between levels of nursing and learning is a life long process. Nursing education is directed by faculty who recognize that students, like their clients, come from diverse, ethnic, cultural, and spiritual backgrounds. Students bring to the classroom different learning styles, goals, and experiences. Learning is maximized when a variety of teaching/learning modalities are utilized in an interactive environment, and the responsibility for learning outcomes, is shared by the students and faculty. Learning progresses from simple to complex and involves the active participation of both students and faculty. Faculty, plan, structure, and select the learning experiences, and function as resource persons, facilitators, role models, mentors, and catalysts. The nursing curriculum, based on the philosophy, uses the Roy Adaptation Model for Nursing as the theoretical framework The School of Vocational Nursing at Hartnell College was inaugurated in 1954 and is accredited by the California State Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technician Examiners. The program is designed to prepare students to function as Licensed Vocational Nurses in providing nursing care to patients under the direction of the Registered Nurse. This program is three semesters. Those who satisfactorily complete the prescribed course of study receive the Certificate of Completion, conferred by the Board of Trustee of Hartnell College and will be eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Upon successful passing of the examination, the vocational nurse may use the title, Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), and may practice in that capacity. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
