Welcome! to the Academic Learning Center!


The Academic Learning Center is an instructional program with a multi-discipline center located in the Annex building, near the center of campus, and Computer Labs located in the CAB and VAF buildings. Students are given the opportunity to participate in an array of classes and instructional support options like computer labs, the Math L-Series, Directed Learning Activities (DLAs), Supplemental Instruction (SI), workshops, study sessions, and tutoring. The Academic Learning Center Labs provide remedial and developmental instruction for academically under-prepared students; they also offer supplemental and stimulating instruction for students interested in developing and improving particular reading, writing, English, language, mathematics, study skills, and computer skills.
The Tutorial Center

The Tutorial Center offers free English workshops, math DLAs, Supplemental Instruction (SI), study groups, and peer tutoring for a variety of academic courses. The Center recruits, hires, and trains supplemental instruction leaders, student tutors and coordinates SI and tutorial services to students, individually or in small groups. Students interested in teaching careers are strongly encourged to apply for tutorial positions. 

 

The Directed Learning Activities (DLA) Lab
Choose from the Academic Learning Center links on the left to read more about general information, course descriptions, requirements for credit, software and videotapes, links to other resources, and a staff directory for each of the Labs and the Tutorial Center. The Academic Learning Center provides a friendly, comfortable, open, and intellectually stimulating approach to developmental, supplemental, tutorial, and multi-disciplinary instruction. The environment is individualized, self-paced, and rich in multicultural, multimedia, and computer-assisted instruction.
