Using
FTPGenius XP to Publish Web Pages
If you have a PC (not a Macintosh), you may download and
install a free copy of FTPGenius software by going to http://www.snapfiles.com/get/zipgenius.html
Once you have installed the program on your computer, you
may access it by going to Start, Programs, Zip Genius, FTPGenius XP. The first screen you see will look like this:

Type ftp.web-students.net
in the box labeled Host, web_students
in the box labeled Username, and Hartnell
in the Password box. Click the little green arrow as shown below.

Once you click the green arrow, the program will connect
with the Yahoo web server space set aside for students enrolled in this
semester’s Internet Literacy class. You will see a screen similar to this:

The first time you log onto the Yahoo web server, you
will need to create a folder into which you will store your web page files for
this class. To do this, click the icon of the folder with the little red
asterisk as shown below:

You will be prompted to enter a folder name. Name your
folder with the first initial of your first name plus your last name. DO NOT
LEAVE SPACES IN THE FOLDER NAME. For example, here is how I would create my
folder:

Once you have entered your folder name, click OK.
To move files and folders into your new web folder,
scroll down the right hand side of the display until you see your folder.

Double click the folder to open it. You will see an empty
folder on the right hand side of the display. This is your web folder up on the
Yahoo server. The left hand side of the display shows your folders on the hard drive
of your computer. Click the down arrow as shown below to navigate the contents
of your hard drive and find your website folder you have created to store the
web page files and images you will be using for this class.

Once you see your images folder and web page files
displayed on the left hand side of the screen, highlight them by placing the
cursor on your images folder (into which you have unzipped and copied the image
files from the textbook web site). Hold down the shift key and click on the
last htm file to select the entire contents of the website folder. Click the
green arrow pointing to the right to copy the images folder and htm files into
your folder on the Yahoo web server:

You will see a display indicating the file upload
process. Once the files and image folder have been copied, you will see them
appearing in the left hand display:

To actually view your new web pages, open up your browser
software (Internet Explorer or Mozilla) and type in the following web address: http://web-students.net/
Scroll down to find your folder.
Double click your folder to open it. Click the name of
the htm file to open and view it. You will see the address of your web page in
the location box of the browser. Copy and paste this information into the
discussion board for this week.
