Introduction to Perioperative Nursing

This class will give you the very basics of perioperative nursing. The student will need to arrange their own preceptorship. The student's preceptor will be given check sheets and guidelines to facilitate their training. Live, synchronous, and interactive lectures will be delivered via the internet. Course Description
The Preoperative Nurse Training course is based on the curriculum from the Association of Perioperative Nurses (AORN). The course provides an RN or new graduate nurse* with basic didactic knowledge in perioperative nursing rationale and theory according to AORN standards. Instruction includes:
Online Instruction - 2 1/2 hour sessions twice a week with live online lectures from Hartnell College (50 hours of classroom instruction over 10 weeks). Computer with 28K or higher modem and microphone/headphones required. Online tutorial available to learn website technology. Clinical skills laboratory - Hospitals will be provided with skills checklists, planning materials and professional guidance needed to conduct their own clinical laboratory experience in gowning, gloving, aseptic and sterile technique, etc. Nurse Preceptor Training - FREE training available for OR nurse preceptors plus individualized mentoring to help hospitals develop an effective preceptors program.

Course Instructor
Frances Bullman MSN, RN, CNOR has been a perioperative nurse since 1978 working in hospitals throughout California. She has a Master's Degree in Nursing from California State University, Dominquez Hills, and is a Certified Nurse in the Operating Room. Ms. Bullman has taught this course for two years with 90 nurses successfully completing the program.
