Location of Assistive Technology on Campus
Computer technology instruction and services are an integral part of the Disabled Students Programs and Services at Hartnell College. Hartnell College is a high
tech campus and provides hardware and software along with staff support to students
needing assistive technologies.
The goal of the DSP&S is to ensure that disabled students are afforded the
opportunity to utilize computer technology to enhance the successful completion
of their educational objectives. To accomplish this goal, students are trained
in the use of adaptive computer technology and computer assisted instruction.

Barrier Free Access To ALL
The High Tech Center at Hartnell College was established at the DSP&S on
campus to ensure that the ever changing technology here at Hartnell is accessible
to all. In addition to offering courses on basic computer instruction, we offer
the lastest in assistive technologies to make sure there are no barriers to
learning.
Students support: A Instructional Specialist is on staff for student
training.
Staff and Faculty support: An Instructional Technologist is available for
training and integration of assitive technologies.

Assistive Technology Available: Some technology
available for checkout to DSPS students.
Low Vision/Blind - Enlarged text and graphic materials with screen magnification
programs, screen readers that use a voice synthesizer to read the screen to
the user, voice recognition software that can be given verbal commands for function.
Braillers and refreshable Braille systems, and high speed textbook scanning
and translation into MP3 files on CD
Mobility Impairment - Adapted keyboard function via OS accessibility
functions, voice dictation programs, alternative keyboards, and high speed textbook
scanning with document conversion to MP3 audio files hands free reading.
Deaf/Hard of Hearing - Closed captioning resources and assisted listening
devices.

HCC 102 - DSP&P office for scheduling classes and services, text scanning,
brailing, and voice recognition.
Academic Learning Center - The High Tech Lab in the ALC offers many components of assistive technology
hardware and software including assistance by an instructional specialist, Judy Peelo.
Library - Accessible workstations with scan and read technology and screen
readers, can be found here, as well as screen magnification. Take our Tour.
