Student (F-1) VISA

You will need to obtain a student visa to enter the United States. You will apply for your student visa at a U.S. embassy or consulate. You need to present various documents as part of your visa application. Before you apply for your visa, contact the U.S. embassy or consulate where you plan to apply to learn exactly what documents are required.

Some of the documents that are required are:

  • Your current, valid passport
  • Your Hartnell College Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20)
  • Your financial statement proving financial support for the amount and period of time indicated on the I-20
  • Passport-type photographs
  • A completed nonimmigrant visa application

You may be requested by the visa officer to prove that you are eligible for a student visa. You may be asked to present information such as your English language proficiency and academic transcripts to verify educational preparation. There may be an application fee and you may have a short interview with the visa officer.

If you have problems obtaining your student visa, please contact the International Student Office at telephone number (831) 755-6829.

Your student visa will be placed in your passport by the visa officer. If your visa is a multiple-entry visa, you will be able to reenter the United States until the date your visa expires as long as you have your valid Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20).
