ESL courses provide language instruction for students who are non-native speakers of English. These classes offer support for students who want to improve speaking, vocabulary, grammar, reading and writing skills. The ESL program is an excellent place to begin your college career if you are someone who wants to improve your English before taking college courses or even while taking college courses.
English courses are designed for fluent or near fluent speakers of English. The English department offers two college-level, freshman composition courses, Eng 1A and Eng 1Ax. These cover the same materials and require the same types of assignments. English 1A meets three hours a week. English 1Ax meets four hours a week and benefits students who want more support on reading and writing assignments.
