Mission
Hartnell College Simulation Center is a value-driven, technologically innovative, multimodal education facility that equips life-long learners with greater competence and confidence as healthcare professionals.
Values
Hartnell College Simulation Center reflects the same five core values as the Nursing and Health Sciences Department: Caring, Collaboration, Competence, Comportment, and Curiosity.
Additionally, we adopt The Basic Assumption that “everyone participating in activities at Hartnell Simulation Center is intelligent, capable, cares about doing their best, and wants to improve (Center for Medical Simulation, 2004).”
We use simulation-based teaching to nurture these values in our learners and recognize the need for such to be held and modeled by trained facilitators to ensure a psychologically safe environment.

Simulation Vs. Skills
Hartnell College Simulation Center has adopted the following definitions:
Skills Lab
Skills Lab focuses on the acquisition, repetition, and refinement of foundational
clinical skills through demonstration, feedback, and hands-on practice. Learners practice
individual
procedures using task-specific tools in a structured environment, where the primary
emphasis is on correct procedural performance, accuracy, and building confidence through
repetition.
Healthcare Simulation
Healthcare Simulation centers on the application of clinical skills within realistic and evolving scenarios that promote clinical judgment, communication, teamwork, and system-level thinking aimed at enhancing patient safety. It shifts the focus from isolated procedures (skills lab) to the integration of knowledge, skills, and behaviors in a safe, supportive learning environment.
