Department of Supportive Programs and Services (DSPS) provides confidential services for students with disabilities at all Hartnell campuses. Our goal is to help students fully access and participate in college courses, programs, and activities.

Services & Accommodations

Hartnell College offers supportive services and instruction for students with disabilities through DSPS.  To facilitate student success in academics and personal development, DSPS provides services, instruction, and accommodations, such as:

Testing accommodations: Extended time on exams and quizzes and/or reduced (quiet) testing environment.
Courses: Priority registration and/or reduced course load (taking fewer than 12 units).
Classroom Accommodations: Note-taking and recording accommodations, adapted classroom furniture, and priority seating.
Deaf/Hard of Hearing Services: American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting and real-time captioning.
Alternative media: E-books, Braille, and large print.
Assistive/Adaptive Technology and Devices: Screen reading and voice recognition software, CCTV (and a variety of screen magnification technologies), note-taking software, digital recorders, and smartpens.
Use of the High Tech Lab in DSPS
Educational planning: Both preliminary and full education plans.
Educational Assistance Classes: Learning skills classes and adapted physical education classes.
Learning disability assessment: Students seeking information about learning disability services should schedule an appointment with a Learning Disability Specialist through the DSPS office. Students may refer themselves, or they may be referred by an instructor or counselor.
