HARTNELL RUNNING BACK NAMED CONFERENCE MVP  (Salinas Californian Staff)

Hartnell running back Sherrod Hawkes was named Offensive Player of the Year in the Golden Coast Confernce, it was announced.

Hawkes, a freshman, ran for more than 1,500 yards and was second in the state with 18 touchdowns.

Matt Collins of Hartnell was selected co-Coach of the Year along with Robert Tucker of West Hills.

Six Hartnell players were named first-team offense and three others were first team defense.

The offensive players were quarterback Michael Turner, receiver Ronnie Turner, linemen Brandon Pena and Jonathan Servin, kicker Gil Camacho and Hawkes.

All-conference defensive players from Hartnell were lineman Chuntony Johnson, linebacker Ernest Hawkins and defensive back Nias Martin.

First-team selections from MPC were running back Jacob Robante, offensive lineman Will Young, all-purpose Joe Jakubowsky, defensive linemen Jon Tuiolosega and Joe Griffin, defensive back Akeel Marsh and punter Alex Elterman.
