A group of Hartnell employees again assisted with Farm Day for elementary school children in south Monterey County on Jan. 31. HCCD Trustee Candi DePauw coordinates the Farm Day event and always appreciates the wonderful participation of our volunteers.
I was a guide for Ms. Coronel’s third-grade class from Cesar Chavez Elementary School in Greenfield. One of the parent chaperones happened to be Sam “Big Sam” Vegas (easy to see why), a graduate of Greenfield High School who played football at Hartnell from 2001-03. He transferred to Arkansas State University on a football scholarship, where completed a degree in criminal justice before returning home to the Salinas Valley.
