We're reaching out to share an update on the recent incident in King City. Our team
has been closely monitoring the situation, and we've compiled information that covers
the incident's background, current status, and the measures being taken by Hartnell
College.

Incident overview:
At approximately 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2024, a shooting occurred at a residence
on the 200 Block of N. 2nd Street in King City (across the street from the King City
Education Center). The incident resulted in the loss of four lives and injury to several
others. The King City Police Department is diligently pursuing all leads.
The shooting did not occur at the King City Education Center campus, and to our knowledge,
no student from our institution was involved.
The community is urged to come forward with information to assist in the ongoing investigation.

Immediate actions taken
Following the incident, Edwina Cervantes, Director of Safety inspected the King City
Education Center at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2024. In collaboration
with the King City Police Department, it was determined the center was secure and
safe. Additionally, the King City Police Chief confirmed in a written statement that
the incident posed no immediate threat to the community and that it was safe to host
in-person classes.
Ongoing safety measures
We are steadfast in our commitment to your safety and well-being. To this end, we
will continue to collaborate with local authorities to support their investigation,
response efforts, and increase the presence of security officers at the King City
Education Center for the next two days.
