The Center for Achievement and Student Achievement at Hartnell (Mi CASA) continues to expand its outreach to undocumented students and families, with support from a Catalyst Fund grant it received in September from the advocacy organization Immigrants Rising. page 4 Mi CASA’s efforts are gaining traction and also extending to indigenous communities within the Hartnell Community College District. On Feb. 27, adjunct faculty Yuliana Vasquez was a guest presenter for the English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) at North Monterey County High School, engaging the audience and showcasing the varied services available at the college.

A communication from the school praised Vasquez’s presentation: "She was truly wonderful last night with our parents. She covered so many of the Hartnell resources that we all felt that Hartnell was the best college ever! Parents and students were very excited about all the offers, and her emotional warmth gave them a reason to ‘risk’ sending their kids to college. [Many of our families, especially our Mixteco families are worried about the ‘risks’ of sending their children to a place they don't know.]”

Mi CASA also thanked Hartnell’s Student Success team for their continuous support to fund a part-time counselor in its office.
