Time to flex your professional learning muscle. Here’s what’s required, what counts, and how to log your hours.
12
Hours of flex required annually for all full-time faculty.
Jul 1 – Jun 30
The flex year. Hours must be completed inside this window.
VRC
All hours are submitted through the Vision Resource Center.
What Counts as Flex
More of what you already do counts than most people assume. Curriculum development and revision, shared governance meetings, advising student groups, equity work, task force service, conferences, workshops, and self-paced training all qualify.
The FAOC maintains the official list, and it’s revised periodically to reflect changes from the Chancellor’s Office. Check the current version before you assume something doesn’t count.

How to Report Your Hours
Everything goes through the Vision Resource Center. Which path you take depends on where the activity happened.
Completed inside the VRC
Nothing further to do. The VRC already has the record, and your hours are counted automatically.
Completed outside the VRC
This covers most activities. You’ll log the hours yourself using the step-by-step guide below.
No documentation required! You don’t need to attach certificates, agendas, or proof of any kind. Fill in the fields, mark it complete, and you’re all set.

Recap: What You Need to Do
- Complete 12 hours of flex between July 1 and June 30.
- Check the pre-approved list if you’re not sure an activity counts. Most of what you already do qualifies.
- Anything you did inside the VRC is already counted. Nothing further to do for those.
- Log everything else in the VRC yourself. Fill in all required fields and mark the activity complete.
- Skip the paperwork. No certificates, agendas, or documentation of any kind are required.
- Submit by the deadline even if the activity hasn’t happened yet. Enter it before the cutoff, then go back into the VRC afterward and hit “Mark Complete.” This is the step people most often miss.
