AS Degree Program Details
A cohort begins every Fall semester.
- Full-time enrollment/ 2 years (4 semesters)
- Our program is a cohort model therefore we do not offer part-time enrollment.
20 students per cohort
- Completion of all prerequisite courses with a minimum of a “C” grade as documented on official transcripts.
- In‐progress courses will not be accepted for admission GPA purposes.
- Science GPA Requirement: 2.5
- Repeat science courses are accepted. Applicants are permitted to repeat prerequisites for a better grade.
- Online science courses are accepted.
- No. If you are not admitted, you are encouraged to re-apply.
Program Prerequisites:
It is required that all prerequisites be completed before applying to the program. In progress courses will be not be considered. We recommend that you meet with a Hartnell Nursing and Health Sciences counselor to review your academic plan.
To comply with federal, state and local regulations for health care providers, students accepted to the Hartnell College Respiratory Care program are required to meet all current Health Sciences programs clinical compliance requirements according to program guidelines; including health screening, vaccination and drug testing requirements, and provide documentation thereof. Students are also required to complete a criminal background check. Information will be provided at orientation which all incoming students are required to attend.
Completion of Hartnell College's CoARC-accredited Respiratory Therapy Undergraduate Major meets educational requirements to apply for the NBRC Therapist Multiple Choice (TMC) examination to qualify for the NBRC Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential. Students who achieve the high cut score on the TMC are eligible to apply for the Clinical Simulation Examination (CSE) to qualify for the NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
Hartnell College has not determined whether completion of Hartnell College's CoARC-accredited Respiratory Therapy Undergraduate Major meets educational requirements to apply for a Respiratory Care Professional license in any other state or US territory.
BS Degree (Online) Program Details
- Full-time enrollment/ 1.5 years (3 semesters)
Our program is a cohort model therefore we do not offer part-time enrollment.
- Completion of a CoARC accredited A.S. Respiratory Care Program equivalent to the Hartnell A.S. Respiratory Care Program
- Possession of a non-encumbered current California Respiratory Care Practitioner license or eligibility for licensure.
- Completion of the Cal-GETC general education pattern.
Transfer eligibility requirements include the following:
- Registered respiratory care practitioners with unencumbered licenses who completed a CoARC accredited A.S., Respiratory Care program
- Students enrolled in the Hartnell College A.S., Respiratory Care program who will be eligible for California licensure upon graduation
- Students enrolled in an accredited AS, Respiratory Care program and will be eligible for California licensure upon graduation.
Minimum Requirements for Admissions Eligibility:
- Hartnell College enrollment or a Hartnell College Application for Admission on file in the Office of Admissions and Records
- Graduation from a CoARC accredited Associate of Science, Respiratory Care Program
- Possession of a non-encumbered California Respiratory Care Practitioner license or eligibility for licensure.
Completion of the Cal-GETC general education pattern.
