Below is a list of chemistry courses offered at Hartnell College taken directly from My HARTNELL (Formerly PAWS). For your convenience, we have also compiled a list of additional resources you may need access to.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Some online courses may provide (at no cost) kits containing supplies needed to perform experiments at home. The details on how to obtain the kits will be provided to you by your instructors or technicians when you register for a course and when classes begin. These kits are only to be used as intended and will not contain hazardous chemicals.

Credits: 4.00 CEUs

A survey of the fundamental concepts of chemistry: measurement, classification of matter, atomic structure, the periodic table, chemical bonding, nomenclature, chemical equations and stoichiometry, gas laws, solutions, reactions in aqueous solution, acids and bases, oxidation-reduction, nuclear chemistry. Designed for students with no prior background in chemistry. [CSU; UC; CSU-GE, AREA B1, B3; IGETC, AREA 5] [C-ID CHEM 101] Advisory: Eligibility for ENG-1A or ENG-1AX

Credits: 4.00 CEUs

An in-depth study of the principles of organic and biological chemistry related to the health science field. Appropriate for most baccalaureate programs in nursing, dental hygiene, physical therapy, physical education, and health sciences generally. Does not meet chemistry requirement for premedicine or predentistry majors. [CSU; CSU-GE, AREA B1, B3] Advisory: One year of high school chemistry with a grade of "B" or better.

Credits: 4.00 CEUs

Designed for majors in registered nursing, animal health technology, physical education, peace officer training, and general education. Atomic structure and its relationship to chemical formulas, equations and equation writing, solutions, the covalent bond and organic compounds, aspects of biochemistry, carbohydrates, proteins and fats. [CSU; CSU-GE, AREA B1, B3] Advisory: Eligibility for MAT-121

Credits: 4.00 CEUs

An investigation of basic principles of physics and chemistry including matter, physical and chemical properties, energy, motion, light, atomic structure, bonding, solutions and chemical reactions. The inter-dependence of chemistry and physics will be emphasized. This course is intended for non-science majors including elementary education. [CSU, UC; CSU-GE, AREAS B1, B3; IGETC, AREA 5A, 5C] [C-ID PHYS 140]
