Japan 2027 Lead Instructor
Marshall Sharpe has been selected by the Boronda Committee to lead the Summer 2027 Japan program.

Sharpe will lead the student cohort in Japan and teach both courses connected to the 2027 Boronda experience. The program will focus on the arts and cultural study in Japan.
IDS-1 | Spring 2027
Sharpe will teach the spring preparation course, helping students build the academic and cultural foundation for the Japan experience.
IDS-2 | Summer 2027
Sharpe will teach the summer study-abroad course in Japan and lead students through the two-week international program.
Program Leadership
The Lead Instructor works with the Boronda Committee, the Assistant to the Lead, and Hartnell staff to prepare students and coordinate the educational experience.
Assistant-To-The-Lead Application
Hartnell is currently seeking an Assistant to the Lead for the Summer 2027 Japan program.
Position Open
The Assistant to the Lead will support Marshall Sharpe with trip planning, logistics, scheduling, tickets, admissions, daily coordination, and other practical needs before and during the trip.
Who can apply?
Current or former Hartnell College faculty or staff members may apply. Experience working with students and travel experience are highly desirable.
IDS-1 & IDS-2
The Assistant to the Lead is encouraged to participate in IDS-1 during Spring 2027 and IDS-2 during Summer 2027, but participation in the courses is not required for the position.
What the role supports
The position is designed to help the Lead Instructor with planning and logistics so that the student group can travel safely, stay organized, and focus on the educational experience.
Lead Instructor 2028
A new call for Boronda trip leadership proposals will open in Spring 2027.
Coming Spring 2027
Hartnell will issue a new call for applications for the next Boronda International Study Program. Faculty and staff will be invited to propose the following summer’s trip.
Who can apply?
Hartnell College faculty and staff will be invited to submit proposals for the Summer 2028 Boronda trip.
Plan the 2028 Trip
Applicants will propose a destination and educational experience for the next Boronda cohort. More information will be shared when the call opens in the spring.

Watch for the Spring 2027 call for proposals. The committee will invite Hartnell faculty and staff to submit ideas for the Summer 2028 international study program.
