SALINAS, Calif. – The Child Development Center at Hartnell College has immediate openings for additional children in its afternoon session, providing a highly individualized curriculum for preschool children at little or no cost for most families.
To be eligible, children must have turned 3 by Sept. 1, 2018, be ready to handle their toileting needs independently. Families are asked to provide their child’s birth certificate, immunization record and proof of their household’s most recent monthly income as part of the admissions process.
The afternoon sessions are from 12:30-3:30 p.m., weekdays only. Parents or other designated persons receive a parking pass that allows them to conveniently drop off and pick up youngsters.

At least one parent must already be a Hartnell student or enroll in a .3-credit Parent Enrichment course, the requirements of which are typically met through participation in parent orientation, parent-teacher conferences, field trips and other volunteer activities totaling at least 12 hours per semester.
Children enrolled for the remainder of the fall term, which concludes on Dec. 14, will be eligible to attend during the spring term, which begins Jan. 14 and ends May 23.
The Hartnell Child Development Center’s highly respected educational program provides a rich indoor/outdoor environment where teachers support children’s interests, curiosities, relationships and learning in an integrated, play-based approach.
Children discover, grow and learn through highly experiential learning in a relationship-driven environment. The center’s full-time master teachers are supported by a staff of student interns, who have completed their Associate Degree and have a Teacher Credential, as well as student assistants working toward an Associate Degree.
The center’s curriculum is highly individualized, and each student’s learning is documented so it can be shared with parents.
“We get to know each child – what their needs and interests are – so we can develop the curriculum that best suits them and allows them to flourish,” Taylor said.
