SALINAS, Calif. - On Saturday, February 15, 2014, the Hartnell Alisal Campus presents their first Hartnell Future Farmers of America (FFA) Field Day - with teams from nine FFA Chapter schools competing in four competitions: vegetable judging, farm power, floriculture, and welding. This is a free program for local schools thanks to the Hartnell College Foundation and local business partners who are donating all of the supplies and awards for the event.
Between 50 and 80 student participants are expected to participate and show their knowledge in their specific area and then prove their ability to perform the tasks necessary to succeed in their capacity. The schedule of events will go as follows:

The competitions will be judged by local Ag industry leaders; over 25 college student ambassadors and parents will volunteer. Agriculture and Industrial Technology Instructor, Albert Graham says that before this year, high school students would have to drive for at least 2 hours to participate in FFA Field Days.
"Students learn leadership skills in the FFA classrooms and apply them to the college field days - later on in life, they become the agriculture leaders in our communities," said Graham. "Next year I am projecting over 300 students to participate."
