Hartnell alumna turns rustic decay into a work of art
Renee Koppany’s Ragnarok
Salinas, Calif. – Hartnell Community College District and the Hartnell College Visual Arts Department will proudly host an artist reception for alumna Renee Koppany’s on Thursday, April 6, 2017 .
The artist will present her exhibition of photography, Ragnarok, at the Seminar Gallery from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at 411 Central Avenue, Building K, Salinas, CA. In this work, Koppany explored and recorded the modern ruin of the Fort Ord Army Base. The decay of the once crisply maintained grounds and structures are reminiscent of the ancient ruins of antiquity that were neglected for centuries.
She photographed the familiar, yet obsolescent objects of the recent past as mysterious objects of a forgotten civilization. Decay takes on an enigmatic atmosphere of mystery in Koppany’s images. She explores the realms of lost value and rediscovery of abandonment and nostalgic reclamation. Her work takes on an unexpected beauty as it compellingly draws the viewer into her vision of a lost world.
Ragnarok will be on exhibit at the Hartnell College Seminar Gallery, Building J, through May 5 th . For more information, please contact Instructor of Photography and Art, Eric Bosler at ebosler@hartnell.edu or call 831-755-6792.
