SALINAS, Calif. – Hartnell Community College District is proud to announce yet another State recognition. Thanks to the diligent work of our faculty, staff, and partners CorrectionalOfficer.Org has ranked Hartnell College #9 Top Supporting Corrections & Criminal Justice offering in California; regionally, we rank #1 and this includes the San Francisco Bay Area.
“Hartnell College is proud of this recognition for our Administration of Justice program,” stated Superintendent/President, Dr. Willard Lewallen. “Our vision of growing leaders is exemplified by this program. Hartnell graduates have assumed major leadership positions in law enforcement, corrections, and the justice system.”
The study analyzed 120 schools in California and ranked 50 based on student data, published surveys, and other school and career data collected from several sources which include government agencies (National Center for Education Statistics and The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System).
Salinas Police Chief and Hartnell Alumnus, Kelly J. McMillin says this recognition does not surprise him. “Salinas PD has had great luck with Hartnell graduates who have gone on to provide years of dedicated service to the City of Salinas. I am a Hartnell graduate as are both Deputy Chiefs, two Police Commanders, and a number of Sergeants and Police Officers.” He added that as Salinas PD Continues to ramp up hiring efforts, they will pay close attention to Hartnell graduates who bring a quality education and intimate knowledge of the region to the service of the community.
The Administration of Justice faculty are honored that Hartnell College was ranked as one of the top supporting corrections and criminal justice program in the state. Administration of Justice Professors Lisa Storm and Lindsey Bertomen submitted the following statement on behalf of the team, “This ranking indicates that our program is promoting student success and degree attainment, which is essential for any career in criminal justice and corrections. It provides notice to our students that the program has gained recognition in the field, enhancing employment opportunities in law enforcement, corrections, and other criminal justice careers.”
“The success of students in this program is the result of the high quality education experience provided by the outstanding faculty in this program,” said Dr. Lewallen.
