Hartnell College students present their research findings
at the 10th Annual STEM Summer Internship Symposium
SALINAS, Calif. – Hartnell Community College District proudly presents the 10th Annual STEM Summer Internship Symposium this Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 411 Central Avenue in Salinas. The event will take place in the Student Center starting at 2:00 p.m. The general public is welcomed to attend. Refreshments will be provided.
“The symposium is a special opportunity for students to formally demonstrate their summer research results and to celebrate their participation in this unique teaching and learning experience,” said Superintendent/President, Dr. Willard Lewallen. (Program attached)
Over 42 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) poster presentations will be displayed by the 71 current STEM Interns. In addition, 10 poster presentations from current UC Santa Cruz and CSU Monterey Bay undergraduate students will be exhibited. Interns worked with personnel from IBM, HeavyConnect, NPS, SPCA, Stanford University, UCSC, and more. Each student receives up to $3,800 for participating in the internship. The recognition ceremony will include the presentation of the Andy Newton STEM Internship Partner Award to UC Santa Cruz, plus the presentation of Internship Certificates to students.
“Since 2006, this unique program has matched student interns with university researchers and industry experts in prestigious laboratories throughout the Central Coast and beyond,” added Dr. Lewallen. “I encourage the media and the community at large to witness the amazing work these students have accomplished at levels comparable to seniors at four-year universities.”
