Award is sure to make significant impact
SALINAS, Calif. – Hartnell College and the Hartnell College Foundation invite the media and the general public to a press conference on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. on main campus at 411 Central Avenue, Salinas, CA to announce the major award that will allow Hartnell to provide a skilled workforce for employers in Monterey County. The event will be inside the Student Center, Building C.
“Hartnell College is thrilled to receive a $1 million award from the State of California via the office of Assembly member Anna Caballero,” said Superintendent/President, Dr. Willard Lewallen. “The award will provide resources to support innovation and student learning in Agriculture Technology and Healthcare.”
Attendees will find out the impact this award will have on the college and the community.
More specifically, the award will better prepare students for careers in Agriculture Technology and Healthcare.
Assembly member Caballero is a champion for education and a strong ally to Hartnell. “I am grateful for the support of my colleagues in the Legislature who worked together with me to bring much needed resources to the 30th Assembly District,” she commented. “These dollars are essential to enhancing the college’s agriculture technology and nursing programs, and enabling students to train for good paying jobs using the latest technology and state-of-the-art equipment.”
Funds for this project will support instructional equipment necessary to prepare students for the current agricultural and health care environments, both of which are saturated with technology. Upgrading programs and equipment in on-campus classrooms will provide students an opportunity to learn the critical skills necessary for rapid change in both industries.
“I appreciate the leadership of the Hartnell Community College District and I look forward to working with them to provide the types of educational opportunities that could change the lives of our residents,” added Assembly member Caballero.
