SALINAS, Calif. – Hartnell Community College District in partnership with the Matsui Foundation and CSU Monterey Bay are excited to introduce CSin3 Cohort IV this Friday, August 5, 2016 at the Matsui Foundation Scholarship Awards Banquet at  5:30 p.m.  at Hartnell College – Steinbeck Hall, 411 Central Avenue, Salinas, CA.

The fourth cohort is comprised of 33 students who will embark in the program starting this fall.  Each recipient will be presented with a $30,000 check to be utilized during the three-year program.

Special guests and speakers include:  Dr. Willard Lewallen (Superintendent/President of Hartnell), Dr. Eduardo Ochoa (President of CSU Monterey Bay), Teresa Matsui (Executive Director, Matsui Foundation), Rivka Garcia (Cohort 1 alumna), and Christian Martinez (Cohort 2).

The CSin3 program is a Computer Science degree achieved  in three years  thanks to a partnership between Hartnell College and CSU Monterey Bay. Students in each cohort are dedicated students whose goal is to better themselves and in turn become agents of positive influence in their communities.

The first CSin3 Cohort graduated in May 2016 and have received job offers up and down the state.  This program has a high rate of minorities entering the Computer Science field: 42% of our students are women and 85% of students are Latino. These are unprecedented numbers in a local, state, and national level.

The Matsui Foundation and the Matsui Family have supported the program from the start. “Hard work, education, and opportunity can change everything,” said Andy Matsui, founder of Matsui Nursery and the Matsui Foundation.
