SALINAS, Calif. – Hartnell Community College District is proud to announce that Business Professor, Peter Calvert is the recipient of ‘Teacher of the Year Award 2014’ by the California Association for Postsecondary Education and Disability (CAPED) – this is a statewide award.     

The CAPED Annual Conference was held on October 11-12, 2014 celebrating 40 years; the theme was A Legacy of Leadership, which Professor Calvert exemplifies.  He was unable to accept the award in person, thus Hartnell College invites the community to join us in a celebration to deliver this special award to him on:

Speakers will include Superintendent/President, Dr. Willard Lewallen, VP of Student Affairs, Dr. Romero Jalomo, and two of Mr. Calvert’s students.  Refreshments will be served.

“When you look up the phrase "student-centered learning" in the dictionary, there is a photo of Professor Calvert.  He exemplifies all the qualities embodied in teaching and learning excellence - commitment, dedication, preparation, knowledge, sensitivity, and compassion,” said Superintendent/President, Dr. Willard Lewallen. “I am proud to be his colleague and he is richly deserving of this recognition.”

Peter Calvert was nominated by Theresa Carbajal, LD Specialist/Counselor.  In her letter of nomination she wrote, “Peter has demonstrated all the necessary qualities needed of a great teacher.  He is fully knowledgeable in theory and practice in his field; he is compassionate, flexible, energetic, efficient, and fun to work with.  Peter relates very well with DSP&D students and staff alike.
