The solar eclipse to have its own viewing party at Hartnell

SALINAS, Calif.   – The  Hartnell Planetarium presents a Solar Eclipse Viewing Party on  Monday, August 21, 2017 from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. , outside the STEM Center, Building ‘S’ at 411 Central Avenue, Salinas, CA.     The event is free to the community at large – however, parking is enforced.

For the first time in 38 years, there will be a solar eclipse visible across North America. The path of the total eclipse will stretch from Portland across the United States to Charleston, South Carolina.

“Not everyone is able to make it to the path of totality, thus here at the Hartnell College Planetarium, we are happy to host this viewing party to watch the partial eclipse visible from Salinas,” said Planetarium Coordinator, Andrew Lindsey.

The viewing party will happen outside the Planetarium. Eclipse glasses, solar telescopes, and sun spotters will all be available free to those who wish to join and enjoy this truly marvelous spectacle of nature. In case of cloudy weather, there will also be a live stream inside the Planetarium of the eclipse as seen from the path of totality.

For more information about this special event or about the Planetarium, contact Planetarium Coordinator, Andrew Lindsey at  alindsey@hartnell.edu  or call 831-755-6913.
