SALINAS, Calif. – The Agricultural Business and Technology Institute at Hartnell College is hosting the Third Annual Future Farmers of America Field Day:

Future Farmers of America (FFA) is an inter-curricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership. Students will participate in 4 field competitions:

  • Farm Power Machinery (tractor driving)
  • Vegetable Crop Judging
  • Ag Welding
  • Floriculture

Over 150 high school students members of FFA from throughout the State of California will be in attendance and participating.  Competitions will be hosted in the instructional shops, laboratories, and classrooms from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Students will be tested on their knowledge in their specific areas, then complete assigned tasks and be judged on their skills. The judges are executives from the local agricultural workforce and professional experts in the specific trade. The campus resides on over 100 acres of land and features the latest technologies for high quality instruction.

Some of the participating schools include: Everett Alvarez High School, Soledad High School, Greenfield High School, King City High School, Paso Robles High School, Arroyo Grande High School, Pioneer Valley High School, Parlier High School, Firebaugh High School, Minarets High School, Woodlake High School, Santa Maria High School, Templeton High School, Tulare FFA, Ann Sobrato High School, Ventura High School, and Avenal High School.

This event is a great opportunity for our local and out-of-the FFA students to visit the Alisal Campus and learn about the Ag programs offered by Hartnell College in the areas of Ag Business, Ag Production, Food Safety, Ag and Industrial Technology, Advanced Diesel Automotive Technology, and Welding.
