Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

All students interested in applying for Federal Financial Aid must complete the FAFSA each year. The application opens each year on October 1st with a priority deadline of March 2nd; however, applications are available throughout the year. Student who apply by the March 2nd deadline are given priority in the awarding process.

Steps to Apply

Step 1

Apply online using the FAFSA Application and list the Hartnell College School Code (001209). Please allow approximately a 2-3 week processing time. Watch our tutorial for step by step instructions! 

Step 2

Log into your Self-Service account to view your Financial Aid Award Letter and any missing documents required to complete you file. You should also regularly monitor your Hartnell email for notifications about your award and missing documents from the Financial Aid Office. 

Step 4

Complete and submit required documents to the Financial Aid Office to review and complete your file. In certain cases, additional documents may be requested. Documents are processed on a first come, first served basis. During PEAK periods, processing time may be approximately 8 weeks.

Step 5

Hartnell College delivers your refund with BankMobile Disbursements, a technology solution, powered by BMTX, Inc.  You will need to select a refund preference to have access to your funds. For more information visit http://bankmobiledisbursements.com/refundchoices/

FSA ID

Don't forget to sign your FAFSA and have your parent sign (if applicable) as well. This can be done electronically with the FSA ID, or by printing and signing a signature page. Parents can also sign electronically with a FSA ID. Signing your FAFSA online with a FSA ID will ensure you receive quick and timely responses from the U. S. Department of Education via the email address you provided when you created the FSA ID. Watch our tutorial for step by step instructions!

Unable to sign with an FSA ID? You can also sign via a signature page. Signature pages must be mailed to the Department of Education. Please note that mailed signature pages can take a few weeks to process. If you did not provide an email address you will receive your Federal Student Aid Report (SAR) via mail in approximately two to four weeks. Soon after, you will also receive an email from Hartnell's Financial Aid Office with further instructions to complete your financial aid file. In order to ensure timely processing, complete and return these documents to us promptly.
